About the Opportunity
SC International (SCI) is partnering with a leading global provider of software and services to the financial services industry to find a Head of Technology & Engineering for its US business. Our client supports many of the world’s largest asset managers, retirement plan providers and financial institutions. It is known for long-standing client relationships and continued growth through new products and new ways of delivering technology.
This executive will lead US technology for the client’s transfer agency and retirement solutions businesses. The organization has roughly 800 engineers across the US and Asia. The platform landscape spans large-scale mainframe, Java and Angular environments. The role combines hands-on technology leadership with a bold push toward AI-enabled software delivery. About 25% of the role is client-facing, working alongside senior leaders at major asset managers.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Execution
Define and execute a multi-year technology strategy aligned with business growth, client needs and regulatory requirements
Lead the evolution of a hybrid architecture that combines legacy mainframe systems with modern Java and Angular platforms
Drive modernization, including platform simplification, cloud adoption and architectural standardization
AI-Driven Transformation
Embed AI across the software development lifecycle, including AI-assisted coding and testing, automated quality engineering, and predictive delivery
Partner with the AI enablement function to adopt best practices, tooling and governance across all engineering teams
Significantly increase engineering velocity and productivity while maintaining quality and service levels
Organizational Leadership
Lead a globally distributed, fully in-house engineering organization of about 800 professionals, with direct reports across application development, platform engineering, quality engineering and production support
Build a high-performance culture focused on accountability, innovation and continuous improvement
Develop leadership bench strength and succession plans across critical roles
Client Engagement (about 25%)
Serve as a senior technology ambassador to strategic clients, including COOs and technology leaders at major asset managers
Co-create technology roadmaps with clients and demonstrate innovation and delivery capability
Represent the organization in client governance forums, executive briefings and industry events
Operational Excellence
Ensure reliable, secure and compliant operations across mission-critical platforms, including data residency and privacy requirements
Improve time-to-market, quality and cost efficiency
Advance DevOps, SRE practices and engineering productivity metrics
Qualifications
15+ years of technology leadership experience, including leading engineering organizations of 400 to 600 or more people across multiple geographies
Experience managing 5 to 8 direct reports across multiple engineering teams
Background in financial services, ideally transfer agency, recordkeeping, retirement, fund accounting or asset servicing
Experience leading large mainframe teams (COBOL, CICS, DB2) alongside modern stacks (Java, microservices, Angular); hands-on mainframe expertise is not required
Strong understanding of AI and agentic approaches to the software development lifecycle
Track record of leading large-scale transformation programs, including operating model change
Executive presence and credibility with C-level clients and stakeholders
Experience leading global teams made up of full-time employees
